  1. Hi Babette

I really like the concept in the first image. possibly bring the rock on just the left into the composition a little bit more so that the shadow isn't cut off quite as dramatically as it is. What I really like about the composition as it is, is the shape that is created by the shadows and the round rock...it's reminiscent of a flower to me. The way you have positioned the shadows also means that the eye travels from them into the expanse of sand. So, i really like this shot...my only concern is the darkness (is it shadow) on the direct left of the rock.

the second shot is quite difficult to see as it seems to be very pixelated. I'm guessing it was shot into the sun (the sun is off to the left and behind Gareth to be exact). I'm also guessing that you tried to lighten the foreground in processing. The problem is that it has resulted in a washed out contrast. Try use a bit of fill-flash to compensate for the shadow, or also think of moving round to your left so that the sun is slightly fuller on Gareth and Blake's faces. Use the shadow then to create a strong portrait accentuated by the dark shadows (I would really like to see a less pixellated version though as possibly there is enough detail in the shadow portion of the face to maintain contrast while lightening the shadows selectively).

    Cheers
    E
